Climbing Tour

Oldham climbing club members visit different walls every Thursday. We try to get to each wall be 7pm so we aim to leave the sports centre by 630 pm at the latest. Each centre will have their own rules for allowing people to use there wall. For adults it requires them to fill in a form stating they are responsible for their own safety, if under 18s are attending it is ideal if they attend with a parent/guardian.
The Chill Factor climbing wall closes at 8pm in the week however if we were able to confirm numbers they could stay open till 10pm. If you plan to go to the Chill Factor can you let me know by email sambadriya@hotmail.com

Indoor climbing does not compare to climbing outside and there are plenty of members in the climbing club that know good crags to climb in the Oldham/North West area which expert climbers and novice climbers can use.
For those of you interested in bouldering there are a few places to try out near by.
Wimberry Rocks and Den Lane Quarry for example.
Another favourite is Hobson Moor quarry which has plenty of difficult bouldering problems and over 30 climbs to choose from with stakes placed in to secure. The main issue is safety so always make sure you go climbing with someone who knows what they are doing and have climbed with before.

Information about local crags can be found in books (Northern Grit), visiting local shops that sell climbing and outdoor equipment e.g. Paul Braithwaites (Mountain Feet) and of course the internet, ( BMC, UKclimbing).

Check the forums on this website for discussions about local crags and other climbing topics.

Wombles of Wimberry
A group of local climbers including members of Oldham Outdoor Pursuits (Alan Keane and Jason Bromley) and Rick Gibbon from the BMC gave Wimberry a much needed tidy up. The full article can be viewed on the BMC website and a word doc can be downloaded by clicking HERE.
