There are opportunities to go climbing both indoor & outdoor, Oldham Sport Centre has a great indoor wall for parties or  a first taster of this fantastic sport, Oldham Community Leisure have a mobile climbing wall for  hire at your event.

 

Nothing can compare to the outdoor Climbing experience and around the Oldham & Saddleworth are there are many crags to explore especially if you prefer grit stone routes.

There are clubs and professional organisations that can help you make your first nervous moves on rock in a safe and controlled manner, Oldham Climbing Club, Oldham Community Leisure & U Project all have qualified instructors.

The Oldham Climbing Wall is an aspirant member of the Association of British Climbing Walls.

Oldham Climbing Wall is an ideal to learn the basics of rock climbing. Oldham Climbing Club instructors are able to teach you to use the climbing wall safely. The following skills will be covered:

  • Tying in using a figure of eight knot
  • Fitting and adjusting a harness
  • Belaying using a recognised belay device

Please book a climbing lesson before coming to the wall if you have not climbed before or need explaining how to tie on etc

To book a climbing session with an instructor simply fill out the form on the Oldham Climbing Club link.  We will send you an email confirming your lessons and who will be teaching you. The teaching sessions take place Friday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

NICAS
 
In addition to teaching indoor climbing the climbing instructors are able to deliver the NICAS scheme levels 1 and 2.

Harnesses and Belay plates can be hired from Oldham Climbing Club for £1 a person during the Friday and Sunday sessions.

At other times they can be hired from the sports centre reception for £2.50 ( 2 Harnesses and a belay).

 

Participation Statement:

The Oldham Climbing Club and The British Mountaineering Council recognise that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death.  Participants in these activities  should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
